Opened in September of 1987, this protected harbor has 453 open slips and 26 covered slips, 4-100' Handicap Accessible slips, and is conveniently located on the south side of Lake Pontchartrain just East of the Industrial Canal, adjacent to Lakefront Airport. The South Shore Yacht Club is one of the busiest Clubs on Lake Pontchartrain . The club has an open membership and transients are welcome to stop by and share their sea stories. Wednesday nights are Red Beans and Rice nights, including friendly games of Bourree. Friday nights are Potluck nights. The club hosts a variety of Races, including the Great Lake Race held in September of every year. The Yacht Club works with non-profit organizations and holds many club sponsored parties and events. The "Sail Mates" or the Lady Auxiliary for the Club encourages women to participate in all Club activities.
South Shore Harbor offers slips for rent or purchase, with or without electricity and sewerage hookups. Yearly, and daily rates are offered for boat mooring. Reservations are not mandatory, but are preferred, especially for vessels over 40 feet. Accommodations can be made for vessels up to 150 feet in length.
